Happy Monday Ravenna Staff:

Just like the day seems to sometimes get away from us, it sure happened to me on Friday with my weekly message.  Nonetheless, I do hope that everyone had a restful or productive weekend.

Everyone should have turned in their first run at S.L.O.’s this past week.  We are all still working through the process together in preparation for next school year when we will be implementing the student growth measure as part of the teacher evaluation system (as opposed to this year with shared attribution).  We will be true to our time lines and provide feedback on the SLO’s.  However, as we proceed through our work, there will likely be changes and we must stay flexible, communicative and willing to work together.  The District Leadership Team has also been formed with administrators and teachers and has met a three times as we continue to set up and work through protocols to improve our student achievement.  Communication and information dissemination is essential as we work together through these challenges.

I hope everyone has a great week at school and I hope the Christmas preparations are coming along!

Happy Friday (the 13th) Ravenna Staff:

I wanted to take a minute and share some levy updates with the staff.  The levy committee has met 12 times over the past several months.  Most meetings are Mondays at 6:00 p.m. at the high school community room.  All are invited.  I am going to send all of the information to all staff so that you can educate yourself as to the specifics of the campaign (meeting dates, times, notes, committees, etc…).  As always, I am available to answer any questions.  We will take any type of help that anyone is willing to give.  The email will be forwarded to you from Laura Wunderle, our levy secretary.  There will be five attachments with all of the information from the past several months.

We have all of our social media updated and running on line.  All of you could really help by going to our website, Facebook page and following me on Twitter.  But more importantly, PLEASE share these sites and this information with EVERYONE you know!  Like the Facebook page and share it.  We need to get the word out!  There is a lot of information on these social media outlets.  PLEASE visit the sites and spread the word!

The most significant change to our levy strategy is that, should the levy pass on February 4th, we are going to initiate a one to one computer program for all students in grades 1-12 for the 2014-15 school year.  Teachers will also receive a laptop for their work use.  We have secured pricing that we can afford but we still have many implementation details to resolve.  This is really exciting news and we are hopeful that we are going to be able to provide this for our students and staff (remember, all  State-mandated tests will be on line in the spring of 2015).

Please spread the word.  We need all staff to be supportive and positive (after all, this is all of our second homes!).

Happy Christmas Break Ravenna Staff!

As we look forward to the holiday season, I thought I might share with you some quotes from famous people that might bring perspective to you during this wonderful time of celebration, introspection and family enjoyment.

“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes of which all men have some”.   Charles Dickens

“Children may forget what you say, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”   Parker J. Palmer

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us”.

 Oliver Wendell Holmes

Hopefully, this holiday season will give us the opportunity to spend time with and appreciate our families and friends.  Reflect and offer thanks to those present and past that have contributed to your life and say a prayer for those individuals in the military who, stateside and abroad, safeguard the rights and freedoms we often take for granted.  Also, take time to reflect on the importance of your contributions to the Ravenna School District and know that you have a daily impact on many young lives every single day.

Once again, I personally thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to our school district and ask that you stay positive and focused on our mission in these difficult times.  May each of you enjoy your break in your own way.
