Hello Ravenna Staff:  After last week’s message, I would like to give everyone an opportunity to process all of the various pieces of our challenging puzzle.  I encourage all of us to continue to move forward in a positive manner and work on being successful with your piece of the puzzle.  We are truly only as strong as our weakest link. In the words of the immortal Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up”.
Make it a priority to spend TIME with those you care about most.  Enjoy the weekend!

Happy President’s Day Weekend! First and foremost, as we gear up for a rather long run (several weeks before spring break), I want to wish everyone a restful couple days.  We will all need the energy and enthusiasm as we gear up for the most important weeks of the school year (“crunch time” before state assessments). I also wanted to take a moment and share some thoughts and reflections on my first seven months in the Ravenna School District.  I have found that there is much work to be done.  However, that is not surprising and is a characteristic of all organizations that are proactive and motivated to move their organization forward. The more significant piece that I have discovered is that we have good people within our school district to make this happen.  I am so very impressed with the administrators, teachers, support staff, parents and students in the Ravenna School District.  Although there are numerous variables that create significant challenges, I sense only that everyone is anxious and committed to doing the “right thing” when it comes to serving our children and parents.  I encourage all of us to continue to work hard, stay committed and stay focused on the task at hand! Have a great weekend!

Hello Ravenna Staff: At this point, our Principals and Special Education Director have had the opportunity to speak to all of the building staffs regarding the District’s move to full inclusion for the next school year.  I want to assure all of you that this decision was not entered into without a great deal of thought.  I, from a professional perspective, have had first hand experience with inclusion and co-teaching as a high school social studies teacher, building principal and superintendent.  This initiative is truly the right decision.  I firmly believe that in order to give all children an adequate opportunity for success, we must provide exposure for all of our students to our entire curriculum.  I want to assure all of our staff that the administrative team (myself included) will provide the resources and tools necessary for not only our students to be successful, but also for our staff to be successful and comfortable as we navigate this road together.  Enjoy the weekend.

Hello Ravenna Staff: As a follow up to my message last week, I wanted to also comment that I have conferenced with our administrative team on numerous occasions and I am confident that we are making enough significant changes to improve our student achievement numbers.  I am in the process of attempting to secure additional staff development days next school year for our teaching staff.  I firmly believe that through a commitment to school improvement from me and our entire staff, we will move the Ravenna School District forward.  BELIEVE!
