Happy Friday Ravenna Staff!

I hope this message finds all of you well and still inspired to push our students and yourselves as we enter into “testing season”.  Please remember to review with your students all of the appropriate test taking skills.  Also, review sample questions from previous state tests.  Our children deserve every advantage that other children throughout Ohio have.  Even though we may philosophically disagree with these tests, it is still all of our responsibility to provide our children with the tools to be successful.

I also wanted to catch everyone up and provide information on some issues hanging out there for the school district:

Levy – Election Day is Tuesday, May 6th.  The levy is 4.9 and is desperately needed.  Please contact me, your Building Administrator, or your Supervisor if you would like to volunteer or be put on the e-mail list to receive up to date information.  The Board of Education will make a public statement on Monday, March 17th at the BOE meeting regarding any financial cuts that would be implemented should the levy not pass.  The meeting is at 5:00 p.m. at Carlin Elementary School.

Calamity day make up - Although not signed into law yet, both houses of the state legislature have agreed that school districts will have to make up four days before they may have any additional exempted days beyond the original five.  We would follow our Board of Education approved contingency plan and make those days up at the end of the school year.  Please look at your blue calendar for specifics.

Pilot testing for on-line assessments – We have committed to pilot several tests this spring.  The purpose is to give our teachers and our technology staff information regarding the expectations and demands of the tests.

As always, if you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me.  I hope that everyone has a restful or productive weekend!

Happy Spring Break Ravenna Staff!

Although one could argue that due to all of the calamity days, we have had several mini winter/spring breaks.  However, in my mind, there is nothing like the feeling of the one, true “spring break”.  The yearly ritual is surrounded with March Madness, the actual official first day of spring, and of course the eternal optimism that the re-birth of flowers, trees and grass will give all of us a “re-birth” of our own.

I wish everyone a restful or productive break.
