Happy Friday Ravenna Staff!

And I believe that all of us would concur that it is indeed a “Happy Friday”.

With the end of “testing season” we can relax for just a moment to catch our collective breath…but only for a moment!

I would encourage all of us to finish these last 4 1/2 weeks strong with the students!  Do your best to “set the table” and prepare your students and yourselves for the challenges that await us next year.  OTES, common core and high level assessments are among several of the challenges.  Next year will be a big implementation year for the Ravenna Schools!

Rest well and allow your mind to stay open and in a positive set to working hard and working together on our challenges.

Happy Teacher’s (and Staff) Appreciation Week!

For the past several weeks I have been trying to figure out how to show my appreciation to the teachers and staff for this week.  My Superintendent’s budget/money, like most other district budgets, is pretty much gone for the year.  At this point, I can only offer additional words of encouragement and appreciation, and a gesture that may or may not be important to each of you (I realize that I do not HAVE TO do anything, but I do WANT To do something).

First, the words - Truly, thank you to each and every one of you for all that you do on a daily basis for children. It is really evident as we come to the end of the school year and all of our patience is nearing the end (mine too!).  Our profession is a labor of love.

Next, the gesture – In the interest of Raven Pride, I invite every staff member to wear JEANS WITH A RAVENNA STAFF OR SPIRIT SHIRT this Friday (a non-pay day Friday!).  How about a theme of “Finish Strong” and “Raven Pride”?  Monetary contributions are not required but certainly an option.

Once again, please know that every one of you are noticed and appreciated!

Hello Ravenna Staff:

As the school year continues to wind down, I wanted to shift gears from the strict academic focus and give a few general, district updates.  As always, please do not ever hesitate to call or e-mail with questions, comments or concerns.

  1. Stadium Financing/Partnerships – We have written or verbal contracts with six community businesses which amount to over $630,000.00.  Our goal is to finance the entire 1.1 million dollar stadium project over the next ten years with non-tax dollars.  We are over half way there!  Our committees (Naming Rights, Advertising, Grant writing) will continue to work over the summer towards our goal.
  2. Stadium Construction – We will have all contracts in place and construction will begin on the turf, track and tennis courts during the first or second week of June.  Full completion is scheduled for August 9th.
  3. Operating Levy – We will be placing an operating levy on the November ballot.  The BOE will announce the amount over the summer, depending on how the state budget shakes out.  We will be organizing, planning and selecting committee chairs over the summer.  We will be asking the entire staff to participate in the campaign in one form or another.  Rest well over the summer!
  4. OTES Information – Bea, Gina and I are working with building administrators to disseminate information to the staff relative to the OTES process for next year.  We are committed to working through this process together.  I emphasize that it is a process!
  5. General appreciation – Finish strong!  Thank you for all that you do!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Hello Ravenna Staff.  Between experiencing my second “Southern Portage County” Relay for Life event (held at our Ravenna Stadium earlier this month) and the included link from our friend and colleague Nick Dudek (Head Custodian at our Rausch Building), I have personally taken time to reflect on what are the most important “things” in life.  “Things” that I do this weekend with family and friends will be high on the list!

I would encourage each of you to click on the link below or type it into your browser and digest this quick read.  It reminded me of what a different world we live in now and our priorities, relative to the era in which we grew up in.

Regardless, I hope that everyone has a great, nice long weekend!  Keep your students engaged and finish strong for the last seven more school days (the kids aren’t the only ones counting!)

Hello Ravenna Staff:

What an exciting day throughout the district!  Starting off at the high school and their senior picnic, Brown Middle School is buzzing with activity and of course the elementary schools and their traditional field days.  As the days wind down (three left but who’s counting?), try to accentuate the positive in every child.  Certainly there are challenges, but continue to believe in the goodness and ability of every child.

Have a great, relaxing weekend and plan to finish strong for the last three days next week.  It’s hard to believe that another school year has come and gone.  Rest well!
