Happy Friday Ravenna Staff !

I hope this note finds everyone in good spirits and ready for the weekend!  I am excited about the opportunity to speak to our entire staff this coming Thursday at our first waiver day.  I truly value the opportunity to update the staff on our district initiatives and hopefully even motivate and re-energize everyone for the long push that awaits us through the winter.  Administrators and Supervisors have put much effort into putting together staff development activities that are pertinent and meaningful.  Our goal is to re-equip your “toolbox” with the necessary tools to educate all of our young people.  I look forward to seeing everyone!

As a reminder, we will meet at RHS at 7:30 a.m. for a continental breakfast.  We will then proceed to the auditorium for a 90 minute or so program.  By 10:00 a.m., everyone should be with their specific school or department.  Your administrator or supervisor has all of the specific agendas for the day.

Happy Long Weekend Ravenna Staff:

I hope that everyone found yesterday both informative and productive.  I truly believe what I said Thursday morning that as professionals, the one thing we all crave is time and collaboration.  No more teaching in silos or working in isolation.  We have a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference in our educational community.  I thank all of you for your positive attitudes and willingness to face challenges, adversity and hard work.  You are all to be commended!

As I came around to the buildings, I was once again impressed with the professionalism and engagement of our staff.  We do have a long road ahead of us, but as we build sustainable processes and solid, research based systems, we can only be successful and reach our ultimate goal of providing an excellent 21st century education for every student in the Ravenna School District.

As promised, here are a few of the links from previous presentations.  I should have the power points and other links up on my web page by next week.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hello RavennaStaff:

As everyone is well aware by now, the “almost” complete and official Local Report Card information and data was released this week.  Unfortunately, when compared to all of the other Portage County Schools, the Ravenna School District was the lowest in most areas.  While this is certainly disappointing, I hope all of you will join me in using this as a motivator to continue our work.  I believe that we are starting and continuing to engage in several different practices and I believe that as a result of this priority shift, we should begin to see different results.  As I told everyone last Thursday, every staff member is an ambassador for the school district.  People believe that you are the experts because you are working at the school.  PLEASE go out of your way to emphasize to your friends, family and neighbors the numerous excellent occurrences that happen in our schools every day.

There are 5 major initiatives that are going on throughout the district that are best practices and have been proven to be successful.  Easy to remember and talk about:

  • High Schools That Work
  • Making Middle Grades Work
  • Focus on Elementary Literacy
  • Technology upgrades and Improvements
  •  Inclusion and Co-teaching being implemented

Please continue to focus on improved instruction and assessment as a result of data analysis.  Together, let’s work smart and effectively.  We do have several excellent guiding mechanisms and processes started and in place.  I understand that much of this work requires all of us to get out of our comfort zone.  However, it is good work and at the end of the day it will benefit the students of the Ravenna School District.  Have a great weekend!
