Happy Friday Ravenna Staff:

I hope everyone had a great week with their students!  It appears as though we may start to get into fall a little bit next week as we slip at least into the low 60’s.

I hope that everyone has a restful or productive weekend!  Happy Homecoming!  Go Ravens!

Hello Ravenna Staff:

Unfortunately, I have additional sad news to deliver to our district staff.  Our Brown Middle School Staff has suffered another loss.  Mary Kneale, a long time educational assistant at Brown Middle School passed away Thursday morning.  We do not have any details at this point other than the fact that Mary had been sick since last spring and has been fighting for several months.

I would, however, like to commend all of you for your tremendous show of compassion, togetherness and professionalism throughout the week.  You are truly excellent role models for our students and community.  Between the loss of Sierra, Martha and now Mary, words cannot describe the pain and despair that many of us have felt this week.  Lean on your family, friends and support networks.  Please continue to keep the families in your thoughts and prayers.

I hope everyone has a restful weekend.

Happy Friday Ravenna Staff!

It seems like these first forty days of school have been a whirlwind.  A lot going on in the Ravenna Schools!  From the good news about our academic successes to the welcoming of over 40 new staff members to the “googlization” of the district to the successes of our fall athletes, cheerleaders and marching band.  However, there is still much work to be done!  In the forefront is our very important levy, the transition of our new math series and the implementation of our assessment work.  We HAVE TO prepare our students to be successful on the state assessments!

Please know that I do understand and appreciate all of the hard work and effort that each of you put in.  All of our plates are full.  Let’s continue to stay positive and keep in perspective that all of this work is for the greater good and for children.  What better cause?  Thank you again for all that you do and I hope everyone has a restful or productive weekend!

And, if you ever doubt how great our kids can be, here is a link to a follow up story that was done on the “blue turf”.  Our student-athletes” interviewed very well!  (this show is on Fox Sports Ohio and broadcasts all over Northeast Ohio!  Enjoy!

Happy Halloween Ravenna Staff!

I hope that everyone has an opportunity to enjoy family and friends this weekend.  Have a restful or productive weekend!  Please take extra caution to be safe this weekend.  This is a very exciting time for children.

A few reminders:

We are wrapping up our United Way Campaign.  Please send materials to the appropriate person at each building.

The calendar for the 2015-16 school year is in your mailbox for you to vote on.  As I had stated at our opening day meeting, we cannot continue to do business the same way and expect different results.  Our loss of instructional days with our students due to starting so late is unacceptable.  That is one variable we can control.  An earlier start date will be reflected in your options as you vote.  Please understand that although this may be a minor inconvenience for adults, it is in the best interest of children (and, we are still here for the benefit of children).

And finally, remember Tuesday is ELECTION DAY.  Please encourage everyone that you come in contact with to support the schools (ISSUES 1 and 2).  We have been able to dodge cuts and layoffs to this point.  However, the longer we go without additional funding, the more devastating the cuts will be when they come.  And they will eventually come.

Let’s stay positive and keeping working together!
