Board approval anticipated at June 29 board meeting

(June 3, 2022, Ravenna, Ohio) – Ravenna School District’s hiring committee has selected 1995 Ravenna High School alum Catrina Seeden-Burwell as the next Brown Middle School Principal.

Ravenna’s Board of Education will vote to make the decision official at the Wednesday, June 29 board meeting.

Seeden-Burwell was selected after a rigorous and thorough interview process which involved three different rounds with multiple stakeholders including students, teachers, parents and administrators.

“I am excited to see how Mrs. Catrina Seeden-Burwell applies her experience and skill set to Brown Middle School,” said Superintendent Dr. Laura Hebert. “I am confident in her experience and looking forward to her leadership in the building and for the district.”

Prior to being selected as the Brown Middle School Principal, Seeden-Burwell served as Associate Principal at Perry Local Schools. She has also previously held roles as an administrative education intern and an 8th grade English/Language Arts teacher at Kent City Schools.

In her Associate Principal role, she has been integral in helping to strengthen the academic performance of the school. She also worked closely with the curriculum department and building principal to create an at-risk program for struggling students and to reform the SPED program so that students will experience more academic growth.

Seeden-Burwell said she is excited to bring her skill set to her alma mater.

“Coming back to my hometown to serve as an educator has always been a desire of mine so when I saw this opening, I immediately started preparing my materials,” said Seeden-Burwell. “It is my hope that I will be able to bring these same skills and successes to the school where I once walked the halls.”

As the new principal of Brown Middle School, she plans to build relationships with the community, families, staff, and students. She believes that in order for schools to be successful, all stakeholders must be involved in the educational process.
