Dr. Dixie L. Benshoff Ludick

Academic and Career Accomplishments

Known for her wit, compassion and competence, Dr. Dixie Benshoff Ludick graduated from Ravenna High School in 1968. The daughter of Roy and Pauline Benshoff she has fond memories of helping her dad with his custodial duties at Highland Elementary. Pauline, active in city politics worked at City Hall and Reed Memorial Library.

While at Ravenna High School, Dixie was President of Student Council, and Coeditor of the newspaper. She played in the band and on the basketball team. She was selected to be the speaker at commencement. Dixie was in the National Honor Society, and Quill and Scroll. She received a national award for her writing abilities. She was chosen to represent Ravenna in Columbus at Buckeye Girls’ State.

Dixie graduated from Hiram College, Cum Laude in 1972. She studied at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. She received her M.Ed. from Kent State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She received her Ph.D. from Kent State University in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and Student Personnel in 1977 and graduated Suma Cum Laude. She did post doctorate work at Case Western Reserve University.

Dixie was Director of Health Psychology in the Pain Management Center of the Cleveland Clinic and at Akron General Medical Center. She has provided psychological and educational services to Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. She was formerly the Executive Director of Highland Home Health Care; Director of Aftercare at Western Reserve Human Services; and Assistant Director Portage County Mental Health and Recovery Board.

A certified teacher, she leads seminars and workshops on a variety of topics. Dr. Dixie teaches the parenting seminar for Portage County Domestic Relations Court. An accomplished writer, she has many publications, and has a chapter in a textbook.

Dixie continues her successful private practice since her retirement from a local school district where she specialized in testing and treating kids with learning or emotional problems.

Dixie is married to Magistrate Timothy David Ludick. They are proud parents of David Grant Benshoff Ludick.
