Building Libraries

The collections in our school libraries reflect the curricular needs of our students and staff. Our collections are indexed in an online catalog, which you can access from the Library Menu for each school on this web site. In addition, we have the State of Ohio provided online databases (INFOhio). 

Our libraries are staffed by library educational assistants, and one professional Library Media Specialist who is a teacher with teaching certification and a masters degree in library and informational science. The educational assistant is responsible for maintaining the library collection and circulating materials to students and staff. The Library Media Specialist selects materials for the middle school and high school and works with the elementary staffs in choosing quality literature. The Library Media Specialist works with students and staff in teaching and learning informational literacy skills.

Using Our Libraries

Our libraries are open during the school day for the use of students and staff.

Kindergarten: West Park School

In kindergarten, our students have a regularly scheduled library time when they can check out a library book.

Students are also welcome to use the library outside of this class time with the accompaniment of their teacher. To develop responsible use, we limit the number of books checked out to one book per student. We do this to help students track what they have borrowed and when to return what they have borrowed.

Grades 1&2: Willyard Elementary  

Grades 3 & 4: West Main Elementary

In the elementary grades, teachers schedule students to visit the library on a specific day each week.  Students in grade one may check out one book.  Students in grade two may check out two books.  In grades three and four, students may check out as many as three items.

Students can also use the library outside of their scheduled library time with their larger class group at the discretion of their teachers. Each library has computers available for student use. Special library activities and events are available in each building.

Grades 5-8: Brown Middle School

In the upper grades, the librarian and teachers schedule students to use the library for curriculum based projects. The librarian collaborates with teachers to design lessons that teach content material as well as information literacy skills–how to locate, access and use information effectively.  

Students can also use the library outside of visits with their larger class group at the discretion of their teachers. The library is open before and after school for student needs.  The library has a mini computer lab available for student use. Special library activities and events are available in the middle grades.

Grades 9-12: High School

High school students are welcomed to the library as their schedule permits. The librarian also collaborates with teachers to provide the information students need to meet their course needs. In the high school, the librarian and/or aide and teachers schedule students to use the library for curriculum based projects. The librarian collaborates with teachers to design lessons that teach content material as well as information literacy skills–how to locate, access and use information effectively.  The library educational assistant is available every day to assist students. The library collection at the high school reflects the academic needs of students and includes a college and career collection as well as databases particularly useful for high school students.
