Happy Thanksgiving! We wish everyone a safe and fun holiday.
Today is the first day of Thanksgiving Break for our students and they will resume remote learning on Tuesday, December 1st.
Now more than ever, it's important to pay attention the the mental health of yourself and your loved ones. Seek help if you notice any of these signs:
Reminder: Food distributions will be on Tuesdays only at Ravenna High School, Brown Middle School, Willyard Elementary and West Main Elementary. It is okay to go to the school that is closest to your house. The Tuesday afternoon pick up times are:
Ravenna High School, 2:45 – 3:45 pm
Brown Middle School, 3:30 – 4:30 pm
Willyard Elementary 4:00 – 5:00 pm
West Main Elementary 4:00 – 5:00 pm Students will receive 5 days’ worth of food.
A Message from Dennis Honkala, Superintendent of the Ravenna School District: First, as I notified all families on Friday, we are switching to all remote learning beginning Tuesday, November 24th through at least December 18th. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. Unfortunately, due to mandatory quarantining per the Portage County Health District, we do not have the number of staff needed each day to properly and safely supervise and educate our students. We will re-evaluate our situation over Christmas break. All in person learners should come to school Monday, November 23rd for a full day. Students will bring home a Chromebook and any other materials needed to continue their education.
Second, for the next 4 weeks, beginning this Tuesday, November 24th, we will have food distribution once a week for all Ravenna students. Again: Once a week, on Tuesdays, for the next 4 weeks, we will have food distribution for all Ravenna students. Food distributions will be on Tuesdays only at Ravenna High School, Brown Middle School, Willyard Elementary and West Main Elementary. It is okay to go to the school that is closest to your house. On each Tuesday afternoon, students will receive 5 days’ worth of food from the district. The Tuesday afternoon pick up times are: Ravenna High School, 2:45 – 3:45 pm, Brown Middle School, 3:30 – 4:30 pm, Willyard Elementary 4:00 – 5:00 pm and West Main Elementary 4:00 – 5:00 pm. This information will be posted on our Facebook and district website pages.
And as always, please continue to follow the district website and Facebook pages to keep up with any information as we continue through the next several weeks heading towards Christmas break. #RavenPride
ALL CALL FOR NOVEMBER 20th: Good afternoon, this is Dennis Honkala, Superintendent of Ravenna School District with a very important message for all Ravenna families. We have made a safety-first but difficult decision to switch our in-person learning to ALL REMOTE LEARNING on TUESDAY, November 24th through at least December 18th. Students who have been coming to school in person should come to school on Monday, November 23rd for a full day. Students will bring home a Chromebook and any other items they need to continue their education. Students coming to the school buildings for in person learning is no longer an option beginning Tuesday, November 24th due to the district being unable to properly and safely staff our school buildings. I repeat, all students and staff will be fully remote learning beginning Tuesday, November 24th through at least December 18th. The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority. Because of mandatory quarantining per the Portage County Health Department, we do not have the number of staff needed each day to properly and safely supervise and educate our students in person. Over Christmas break, we will reassess our situation and make a decision at that time whether or not to provide an in person learning option next semester. I will stay in communication with all families as we navigate these difficult times. I will be in communication with all families as often as needed for the next several weeks to provide information and updates on our learning programs, athletics, extra curriculars and our food distributions. Please follow us on our district website at www.ravennaschools.us and our Facebook page for continuing updates. I hope that everyone has a safe and healthy weekend.
