Academic and Career Accomplishments
Prior to his retirement in 1996, Ron Snowberger completed 33 years of service in the Ravenna School District. His career which began as a Business Education teacher at the high school, included Library-Media Specialist, Advisor to business clubs and National Honor Society as well as Student Council, Honors Program Director, Department Head, Assistant Principal, Principal and Business Manager. He was an instructor at Kent State University for eight years. He has been a member of, Presenter to, and Chairman of over 38 committees relating to teaching and administration on the local, state, and national levels, particularly The North Central Schools Evaluation Teams, the Ohio Librarian’s Association, and the Ohio Business Teacher’s Association. Of particular importance was his establishing Key Club International at the high school. During the organization’s first year, the 55 charter student members distinguished themselves at the local, state, and international levels. Ron’s induction into the Hall of Fame recognizes his educational and civic leadership in our community. Awarded for service to the Emergency War Order Team of the Strategic Air Command, his Ravenna honors include Kiwanian of the Year, Key Club Ohio Advisor of the Year, Ravenna Jaycees Outstanding Educator and state finalist, Ravenna Schools Distinguished Teaching Award and the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation Scholarship. He also served his peers as President of the Ravenna Education Association. Ron, respected by peers and students alike, is still called upon by hundreds of students he observed at graduations in Ravenna. Serving over 15 years on the Portage County Juvenile Court Board, he has spent unlimited hours to insure the success of students.
