Major Contribution to Ravenna Schools
Dave McBee is a 1966 graduate of Ravenna High School and a 1970 Cum Laude graduate of Kent State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in comprehensive social studies. Dave then earned a Master’s Degree in Secondary Educational Administration from Kent State in 1977. As an athlete at RHS, Dave earned a total of ten varsity letters in a variety of sports, which included cross country, basketball, track and baseball. Dave was the captain and the number two runner on Ravenna’s only Metro League undefeated cross-country championship team in 1965. Dave began his teaching and coaching career in Ravenna in 1971, as a junior high school social studies teacher and the seventh grade boys’ basketball coach. He was promoted to the position of freshman basketball coach the following year. In 1974, Dave returned to RHS as a social studies teacher, the head cross-country coach, and the assistant boys’ basketball coach. In 1976, he was promoted to the position of head boys’ basketball coach. His 1978-1979 basketball team won Ravenna High School’s only Metro League boys basketball championship. Following the 1978-1979 basketball season, Dave was recognized as the Metro League, Portage County, and Northeast Inland District Basketball Coach of the Year. He was honored again following the 1979-1980 basketball season as the Metro League Basketball Coach of the Year. In 1983, Dave assumed the position of Athletic Director at Ravenna High School. He was recognized by his fellow athletic directors in 1994-1995, as the Metro League Athletic Director of the Year. In 1995, Dave returned to Brown Middle School as an Assistant Principal, a position he held for three years, until his return to Ravenna High School in 1998 as an OWE Coordinator. Finally, Dave returned to the position of Athletic Director for the Ravenna Schools in 2003 and continues to serve Ravenna’s student-athletes in that capacity.
