Academic and Career Accomplishments

Jim Theobald is a shareholder in the Richmond, Virginia law firm of Hirschler Fleischer, where he currently serves as Chairman. He joined the firm in 1980 and rose quickly to become the Chairman of the Commercial Real Estate Section and President of the eighty-five lawyer firm, which is among the top 10 largest firms in Virginia. He received his B.A. degree from the College of William and Mary in 1974 and his J.D. degree from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 1977.

Jim has been included in numerous editions of Virginia Super Lawyers Magazine as one of the top land use and zoning attorneys in the state. A member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, Jim has also been regularly included in such annual publications as “Best Lawyers in America,” “Chambers U.S.A. America’s Leading Lawyers,” and “Virginia Business” magazine’s “Legal Elite.” As a certified yoga instructor teaching at a local yoga studio, he has also volunteered to teach veterans in the PTSD program at the Veterans Administration Hospital as well as to men in the Richmond City Jail.

From humble beginnings as a bass player with the Junior High garage band “Me & My Friends”, he has played in a classic rock band for over 30 years helping individuals and organizations raise funds for charity. Jim serves on numerous civic and charitable boards, including Goodwill of Central Virginia. He and his wife Mary joined four other couples in 2015 to create Valley Road Vineyards, already an award winning winery near the mountains of western Virginia.
