Academic and Career Accomplishments
Terry graduated from Ravenna High School in 1962. He was a member of the National Honor Society, co-editor of the High Times, president of Student Council, captain of the football team and tri-captain of the track team. After working his way through the University of Akron with Pyramid Rubber, Terry became an engineer and product planner with Ford. He earned a Masters in International Business at the University of Michigan and, subsequently, managed product planning, regional operations and marketing functions for Toyota. In a career dotted with start-ups, Terry was on Ford’s initial Fiesta team and later was instrumental in Toyota’s 1976 acquisition and operation of distribution in fourteen Mid-American states. In 1988, Terry joined Cellular Communications, Inc. (trading as Cellular One) and was appointed President and General Manager of the Southern Ohio Telephone Company. In 1992-93, Terry led the re-start for CCI in its highly successful venture in Puerto Rico. He transferred to the fledgling International Cable Tel Organization (now known as NTL) in mid-1993 and while in Scotland developed the launch strategies for Cable Tel sales. In 1994, Terry became Managing Director of NTL’s Welsh operations, responsible for residential and commercial telephony, data and television operations in Wales plus the West of England. He grew the organization from a few dozen to over 700 people (plus a fleet of 250 Fiestas). In Southern Ohio, Wales and North Ireland, Terry has been a director or chair of numerous charities, community organizations and business associations. Retiring to Lake Cumberland, KY in 2001, Terry remains active in charitable and philanthropic activities.
