RHS Service Learning Class Develops Outreach Program – “Helping Hands for the Homeless”

Mar 8, 2021

As you can imagine, Covid 19 has impacted the RHS Service Learning Class in unique and extra-challenging ways.  Like the other “hands-on” courses, they have had to focus on “hands-off” and theoretical or virtual  learning with limited opportunity for “doing.”  Still, our service-minded students were determined to find a way, and as a team they decided that “hands-off” was no excuse for being…well…hands-off!  We are proud to bring you the RHS Service Learning Class “Helping Hands for the Homeless” Project!  Through several weeks of “Lead-4-Change” project planning curriculum, students identified their focus as the homeless population of the Ravenna Area.  They have chose two methods of outreach: “Raven Relief Bags” which are hygiene kits, and recycled grocery bag sleeping mats.  Students made a connection with the Cocooners, a local volunteer group of quilters/sewers who have a similar mission.  The Cocooners have generously provided 41 beautiful drawstring backpack style bags for our Raven Relief Bags.  Both the bags and mats will be delivered to local agencies and organizations that work directly in homeless outreach already.   Well done, Ravens!!!
