Edwin J. Marini

Special Honorary Achievement

Ed Marini graduated from Alliance High School in 1943 and immediately went into the Navy where he earned a commission in 1945. Entering Mount Union College in 1946, he graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Music degree. In 1968 he earned a Master of Music degree from Vandercook College of Music where he was class president and valedictorian. Mr. Marini came to the Ravenna School District in 1952 as the Instrumental Music Director and quickly developed the band into a superior-performing ensemble. With the consolidation of school districts, he became supervisor of music and director of the Brown Junior High Band. Through his leadership and guidance, the Ravenna music program developed into one of the finest programs in Northeastern Ohio. Performing groups consistently earned superior ratings and Mr. Marini’s Brown Junior High Band compiled a record of 15 superior ratings in 16 years. The Brown Junior High Marching Band also presented outstanding performances at the Ravenna Homecoming games. Ed instilled in his students the realization that self-discipline is important when striving for excellence. Several former students have pursued successful professional music careers thanks to Mr. Marini’s dedication. Carmon DeLeone, who will be presenting Mr. Marini tonight, is one very good example. Retiring in 1977, Ed continued to be involved in community affairs. He has served 12 years on the Ravenna Parks and Recreation Board, five of those years as president.
