Maria Mastromatteo

Major Contribution to Ravenna Schools

Maria Mastromatteo began her teaching career at age 20 in the Ravenna City School District as a primary teacher. During twenty-seven years of teaching, she has taught a variety of subjects at both the elementary and middle school levels. She was one of the first teachers in the Head Start Program and taught Adult Basic Education for seven years. The Apple Computer Company chose Maria as a training consultant. She has been professionally recognized as both an outstanding elementary and secondary teacher. In 1972, she was chosen as a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar. Most recently she received the Outstanding Secondary Classroom Teacher Award from the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics for Northeast Ohio. She is presently working with the American Statistical Association and has conducted workshops in Arkansas, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, South Carolina and Hawaii on statistics and probability. Maria has been published in the Journal of American Statistical Association and theYearbook of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Maria has a variety of interests including serving on the Board of Trustees for the Porthouse Theater and is known as a friend to everyone. People of all ages could benefit from her excellent example of ambition, caring and professionalism.
